A Brief Note 26MAR2012

I’m not really sure where we’re going right now.  The twitter crowd has dwindled.  I have been banned from Ustream.  Feedback from this newsletter is nil.  I’m out of money at the studio.

Oh yes, I was banned from Ustream because I held up my sketchbook of nudes.  I flipped my thumb through it and was saying how I couldn’t show it there because Ustream has a zero tolerance policy for nudity.  That’s when I looked up and saw that I was banned for violating the nudity policy.

It’s all I can do to find the strength to continue to art.

Continue to art!

I was arting before there was twitter and Ustream.  I was arting before this newsletter, and of course before I bought the studio.  I will continue to art as long as I’m able.  You should too.

If you’ve been arting lately, send me a link and let me see it.

I have set up a new account at Livestream and everything should be in motion for the show to continue from there.  There will be a few changes you should be aware of.  Livestream doesn’t have a namby-pamby nudity restriction.  So I most likely WILL show off the nude sketchbooks.  As a matter of fact, the first livestream broadcast is probably going to be titled “The Artistic Biker Does Nudes” or “The Artistic Biker All Nude All The Time”.  Should make for solid entertainment if you’re into gnomes.

A Brief Note 26FEB2012

Hello Peoples!

YouTube needs a Visual Arts category!

YouTube needs a visual arts category

+Merrill Kazanjian has a thread going about how YouTube needs a visual arts category. How many of you have uploaded a video of your art, or searched for something art related only to be surprised that after all this time, YouTube STILL does NOT have a visual arts category?!? The photo is a screen shot of my latest art journal video situated nicely among How To Style your nails or brighten your jeans.

Let YouTube know that it’s time for Visual Arts category. Join the discussion here:http://bit.ly/x0Flxk

Last week in The Classroom the question was asked about the resurrection of painting class.  The short answer is, “Not so much.”  The longer, more relevant answer is, “That too.”  (evil grin)  You may have noticed that I have quit referring to the classes as Drawing Class or Painting Class and have started calling it simply The Classroom.  What that means is the classes are combined.  Painting for me is primarily drawing with paint.  That’s one of the reasons I had difficulty keeping interest in a separate class.  What we will do from here forward is insert painting instruction as it applies to the lesson of the week.  For instance, this week we’re continuing our topic of composition, but this time it will center around pallet choices.  Should help keep each week’s class fresh and lively.

We need topics and interviewees for Midnight at Oasis.  The topics can be any subject: politics, religion, sex, environment.  The only requirement is that they have to be related back to creativity.  For instance: how have world economic pressures affected your ability to find time to art?  I’ve started a Facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/382982991728276/ so go join up and suggest topics.  We’ll set up a poll to vote and interview people over Skype.

If you would like to help with funding Oasis Studios & Gallery, you can go to artisticbiker.com and look for the DONATE button on the right side column and donate what you can.  If you can’t do that, please share this newsletter with everyone you know to help get the word out.  That helps more than you know.  Or better yet, Click Here to Join! artisticbiker.com/membership and help promote the arts in rural Oklahoma.

If you have any announcements you would like made in the newsletter or tweeted about incessantly, drop me a line and I’ll toot your horn for ya.  ;)  There were no announcements this week.

Tips & Tricks 26FEB2012

This week’s tip is actually a quote from Bertrand Russell:

One should as a rule respect public opinion in so far as is necessary to avoid starvation and to keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny, and is likely to interfere with happiness in all kinds of ways.
Bertrand Russell, Conquest of Happiness (1930) ch. 9
British author, mathematician, & philosopher (1872 – 1970)

Letting someone else define for you what is allowed in your art will never lead to personal happiness.

A Brief Note 19FEB2012

Hello Peoples!

WooHoo! The display panels in the gallery have all been sanded and the wainscoting has been cut for installation.  Then stain the floor and a slick coat of paint and the gallery will be done!  It would not have been possible without your generous donations.  Keep spreading the word and we[‘ll keep fighting.

Drawing class will be from 7-8p central time for the foreseeable future.  I find that when I have drawing class at 6, I not only have to leave the day job early to get everything set up in time, but I don’t get home in time to play with my babies.  This way, Artmom can swing ’em by the studio prior to class and we can share a McNugget Happy Meal.

The day job has me out of town traveling again this week so I don’t know if there will be an Artistic Biker Live! on Thursday.  Be sure and follow me on twitter @BladeTheArtist for any updates in that regard.

This time of year we are ALL severely limited on fundage so we may be building with used pallets.  If you would like to help with that, you can go to artisticbiker.com and look for the DONATE button on the right side column and donate what you can.  If you can’t do that, please share this newsletter with everyone you know to help get the word out.  That helps more than you know.  Or better yet, Click Here to Join! artisticbiker.com/membership and help promote the arts in rural Oklahoma.
