Art Journal: Christmas Cards

6 minutes on YouTube: Art Journaling Christmas Card

On this week's The Artistic Biker Live! My mom the producer was back from her globetrotting adventures. We were also joined by my beautiful daughter Girl1, who showed off her "Daddy's Girl" tattoo. She was the subliminal baby this week.

With all that excitement we chase a LOT of rabbits on the show, including discussing using my waterbrush as an ink filled brush pen! (which I LURVES!!!) Somewhere past half way done with the show, I finally managed to make a few card prototypes for Christmas this year. I'll probably re-do all of them this weekend and then get them to the printer. I could print them myself, but it's way more cost and time effective to go to Staples (free endorsement).

Painting Class 23NOV2011: Popcorn I bit.ly/vxRcR6
Tonight, I demonstrated the horrors of not prepping a surface properly, creating a background underpainting, and began blocking in the shapes for the popcorn forground. Next week I will finish this up so be sure and tune in for the conclusion as well. The password will be listed in the newsletter at https://www.artisticbiker.com/newsletter

Tonight we looked at the basic structure and shading of cones. Using a spraypainted party hat as a model, I demonstrate the basic shape and shading of a cone. We briefly discussed applying that to other triangles and cones in diamonds, bottles, and even the negative spaces in plants. Followed it up with a 5-minute demo drawing.

Movember Updates:

I think this mustache is growing on my.

Still raising money for Movember! Movember is where a WHOLE bunch of guys the world over grow mustaches to raise awareness and dollars for men's cancer research, specifically The Prostate Cancer Foundation and LiveSTRONG. Last year, Movember raised nearly $81M. My little team has raised just over $300 this year. You can contribute by going to http://mobro.co/artisticbiker. You can also help by sharing this link as far and wide as possible.

Thank you!

Art Journal: Flaming Turkey

5 minute YouTube: Art Journal Flaming Turkey
2 hour Ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18582668

A year or two ago, I decided to fry a turkey for Thanksgiving. I borrowed a turkey fryer and carefully read all the directions. The directions tell you to place the turkey in the pot and fill the pot with water until it just covers the bird. Then you take the bird out and make note of where the top of the water is. That is supposed to be the amount of oil you use to fry the turkey. I filled the pot to the mark with peanut oil and heated it to the prescribed temperature and carefully lowered Thomas into the vat. This is where things go awry. They don't tell you in the instructions to allow room for the hot oil to EXPAND. So, when I put the bird in the vat, the vat overflowed and fire ensued. Big fire. Fire taller than my porch fire. I was smart enough to immediately turn off the propane and disconnect the hose. I also had the presence of mind to put the lid on the pot and wrap a wet towel around it to smother the flames. Somehow, all of that sense didn't come to me in time to PREVENT the fire.

This art journal entry is a spray paint and collage back ground with skunk drawn on watercolor paper and pasted in then painted with student grade acrylics.
